COLUMBUS — The Ohio Supreme Court has set an execution date more than two years away for a condemned killer who shot a man trying to help the killer’s wife kick her drug addiction.

Warren Henness was sentenced to die for killing Richard Myers in Columbus in 1992. Afterward, he stole his car, credit cards and checks and used them to buy drugs.

Court records say that Henness knew Myers because of Myers’ attempt to help Henness’ wife seek drug counseling and treatment.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday set a Jan. 7, 2015, execution date for Henness. It’s the farthest into the future the court has scheduled an execution.

Four executions are scheduled for 2014, and six next year.
