3 Miss. corrections officers stabbed while moving inmate to seg

All have been released from the hospital

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. — Three corrections officers have been stabbed at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility Thursday morning.

WTOK reports that an ambulance transported all of the officers to the hospital for treatment.

The incident started when an inmate was transferring his belongings to a long-term segregation unit; he produced a contraband weapon and stabbed one of the officers in the back. Two other officers stepped in to subdue the inmate using pepper spray.

As they joined, another inmate became involved and stabbed another officer in the back and arm. The third officer involved received a small cut on his hand and was also maced.

Several other officers immediately provided backup and secured the scene within a few minutes.

This is the third violence instance to occur at the jail in the past two months. The inmates involved in the attack now face serious charges.

All of the officers have been released from the hospital.
