NEW YORK — Two corrections officers and a captain have been arrested on charges of beating an inmate.
The New York Times reports that Captain Moises Simancas and COs April Jackson and Tyrone Wint are charged with beating an inmate into unconsciousness with a baton and then falsifying documents to cover up the act.
The arrests come as part of a month-long inquiry by the city’s Investigation Department into “a pattern of lawless conduct at Rikers that must he brought under control,” according to department commissioner Mark G. Peters.
All three officers have been removed from contact with inmates and were suspended after their arrests.
