ATMORE, Ala. — A G.K. Correctional Facility officer was stabbed multiple times by an inmate over the weekend.
WSFA reports that the officer is recovering after being stabbed during a routine check of a housing unit on Saturday. The officer was treated and released from a nearby hospital on the same day.
Inmate Larry Jones, 44, was charged in the incident. Jones is currently serving a 100-year sentence for first degree robbery, kidnapping, rape and sodomy.
The officer had confiscated a cell phone from another inmate earlier in the morning, and investigators believe Jones attacked the officer in retaliation by stabbing him multiple times with a makeshift knife.
Jones has been placed in segregation without further incident.
