FLORENCE, Ariz. — A rollover crash on Arizona 79 carrying an all-inmate wildland fire crew injured two state corrections officers and eight inmates near Florence on Wednesday.

The rollover, initially described as a single-vehicle crash, occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday approximately 10 miles south of Florence — home to federal, state and contract prison facilities.

Officials said the wildland fire crew was returning from an assignment in Oro Valley. It rolled when the driver swerved to avoid a vehicle blocking the northbound lane of the two-lane highway.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating.
