ATLANTA, Ga. — The Atlanta Department of Corrections announced today that it would spend a week celebrating National Correctional Officers and Employees Week from May 4 through May 8.
“These services provided by the Department of Corrections are vital to the community. The City of Atlanta has one of the best facilities in the country thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff to provide exemplary customer service in a safe and secure correctional environment,” DOC Chief Patrick Labat told the Atlanta Daily World.
“National Correctional Officers and Employees week gives us a platform to not only pay tribute to our officers, nurses and employees, both past and present, for the critical role they play in public safety, but also to simply enjoy the camaraderie among our staff with fun, team-building activities.”
The weeklong festivities include a memorial prayer service in honor of fallen officers, a retirees’ luncheon, team-building activities and a health care for City of Atlanta employees.
On Friday, an award ceremony will conclude the week with the presentation of the 2015 Correctional Officer of the Year award.
