ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A 22-year-old corrections officer with the Lehigh County Prison in Allentown has been fired after an alleged road rage incident.
WFMZ reports that Christopher Fitzgerald, whose father is the Allentown police chief, was fired after he pulled a gun on two undercover detectives in what his attorney is calling a road rage incident.
The attorney, Jack McMahon, said the detectives were following Fitzgerald in what may be a case of racial profiling.
“The officers were right up on Fitzgerald’s bumper, scaring him… remained following him through Allentown,” McMahon said. “When my client is stopped, they stopped. One of the officers then approached the car.”
It was then that Fitzgerald pulled out his gun, though he takes issue with the allegation that Fitzgerald pointed his gun at the officers.
According to court documents, Fitzgerald repeatedly “brake-checked” the detectives, who were wearing plain clothes and driving in an unmarked vehicle.
The car, a white Nissan, then came to a complete stop and pulled over, reportedly nearly causing an accident, according to police. Fitzgerald was then said to have opened a car door and pointed a loaded Glock handgun at the detectives.
In response, the detectives put their vehicle in reverse to escape the line of fire and called for backup.
Fitzgerald was later found by police in a mall parking lot.
