KANAKAKEE, Ill. — A Kanakakee County Sheriff’s deputy recently passed away after suffering a heart attack earlier this month.
Deputy Zebulun Pfeiffer was with the county sheriff’s office since 1998. He suffered cardiac arrest while exercising. A fundraiser is planned in his honor for June 19 at the Quality Inn to raise money for his family.
“The Sheriff’s Office grieves the loss of our brother Zeb Pfeiffer who was a dedicated and selfless public servant,” Sheriff Tim Bukowski said. “He never hesitated to heed the call of duty and place himself in harm’s way on many occasions during his 17-year career.
“The community indebted to the entire Pfeiffer family who allowed Zeb to pursue his dream. Zeb was passionate in the pursuit of excellence and his commitment contributed to making this community safer for all of us. We will miss him and I would ask that we all keep the Pfeiffer family in our thoughts and prayers.”
Pfeiffer served a variety of capacities with the sheriff’s office, ranging from correctional officer to an agent of the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Apprehension Unit.
He leaves behind a wife and daughter.
