COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – The body of a missing Florida correctional officer has been found near an abandoned vehicle.
GTN News reports that the last time relatives of Sharon Jackson, 56, saw her was on June 21. On June 22, a state trooper stopped to check on her after seeing her vehicle parked on the side of the road.
Jackson told the trooper that she had just run out of gas and had help coming.
She was reported missing four days later.
Jackson’s body was located in tall grass behind a shed on property nearly 300 feet from where her vehicle had been abandoned.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death and also to fully identify the body as that of Sharon Jackson.
Authorities are treating the case as a homicide.
