REDDING, Calif. — A 19-year-old inmate at Tehama County Jail tried to kill himself Wednesday, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office said.
A deputy was doing a security check of one the jail’s housing units about 12:30 p.m. when he found David Wayne Harris hanging from a bunk bed by a sheet he had fashioned int oa rope, sheriff’s Capt. Danny Rabalais said.
Harris normally shares the room with three other inmates, who were housed elsewhere at the time of his hanging, deputies said.
Harris was cut down and deputies started CPR until medics arrived. Harris was taken to a hospital and released back to jail after being treated, Rabalais said.
Harris was arrested Sept. 23 on an attempted-murder warrant and suspicion of participating in a criminal street gang.
