ALFRED, Maine — Two correctional officers were hospitalized following a chemical reaction in the laundry room of the York County Jail.
WCSH6 News reports the chemical reaction created a noxious gas that filled part of the jail.
Two inmates in the laundry room at the time complained of feeling sick and said they had sore throats.
Several fire departments responded to the jail and isolated the area where the chemical reaction happened.
That section of the jail had to be aired out using large fans. Around 2 A.M. Tuesday the jail was deemed safe.
The officers’ and inmates’ conditions have not yet been released.
