HARTFORD, Conn. — The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield remained in lockdown late Sunday after a corrections officer was assaulted just before 10 p.m. Saturday.
The officer was taken by ambulance to an unnamed hospital for treatment and he was released Saturday night with injuries that were not life threatening.
The assailant is serving a three-year sentence for violating a protective order, state Department of Correction spokeswoman Karen Martucci wrote in an e-mail.
The assailant was transported to Northern Correctional Institution, a high-security state prison in Somers.
“The facility remains on lockdown. Assaults on staff are taken very seriously by the agency and an investigation has been initiated,” Martucci told the Courant via e-mail Sunday night.
