ENFIELD — A mother and three children were injured August 30th in a head-on collision with a tractor trailer on Shaker Road near the Carl Robinson Correctional Facility, according to police.
All four people were taken by ambulance to area hospitals, according to Enfield Police Capt. Jeff Golden. Their conditions were not immediately known, he said. The accident happened at about 3 p.m. at the bottom of a hill just a few hundred yards away from the state prison.
Golden said the van collided with a FedEx tractor trailer. The collision is believed to have been head on, but police have not yet determined which vehicle cut into the path of the other, he said. Police were alerted by multiple 911 calls and when the first officers arrived on scene, employees of the prison had already removed the three children from the van, he said. The woman was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by firefighters using Jaws of Life hydraulic equipment, he said.
