NAPOLEONVILLE, La. — Authorities say an Avoyelles Parish correctional officer’s decision to make an unscheduled stop last week to let an inmate she was transporting to jail to buy drugs backfired.
Assumption Parish deputies say the inmate never returned with the drugs and escaped.
Felicia Daigle was found more than three hours later at her home in Labadieville.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack tells The Advocate 47-year-old Michelle George was arrested Wednesday and booked with malfeasance, assisting escape and obstruction of justice.
George has been on administrative leave from the Avoyelles Sheriff’s Office since the escape.
Officials couldn’t provide the name of a defense attorney to comment on the charges.
