ABILENE, Texas — Family and friends gathered Tuesday to hold a vigil for the lives of two officers who were killed in a bus crash back in January.
Everything Lubbock reports that the vigil honored Officer Eligio Garcia Jr. and Officer Christopher Davis, who died when the bus they were transporting inmates on struck a piece of debris in the road and crashed down a hill, striking an oncoming train.
Surviving Officer Jason Self was also in attendance Tuesday.
“Today is just a solemn reminder to all of our correctional staff what can happen in the line of duty,” said Sgt. Daniel Rogers. “We have taken a hard hit in the Abilene area with losing two of our very close coworkers.”
A second ceremony was held Wednesday to honor all fallen officers.
