COLUMBIA, S.C. — A gunshot rang out in the emergency room at the Palmetto Health Richland Hospital Wednesday when a SC Department of Corrections inmate, there to receive treatment, stole a gun from one of the correctional officers escorting him.
A second correctional officer fired a shot toward the inmate/patient which helped subdue the patient and allowed the team to regain custody.
