GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Kent County has filed suit to block arbitration involving former jail guard Jaclynn Rodriguez, who was fired after being attacked by an inmate at the Kent County Jail.
Kent County lawyers say it had every right to fire Rodriguez during her 12-month probation period. Efforts by the Kent County Deputy Sheriff’s Association to send her grievance to arbitration “is not proper or authorized,’' the lawsuit alleges.
Rodriguez had been working eight months at the Kent County Jail when she was attacked Sept. 14, 2012 by an inmate. Willie Lee-Wilson Williams was sentenced in August, 2013 to a minimum 80 years in prison for attempted murder and for an unrelated armed robbery.
