DETROIT, Mich. – After a Mich. Department of Corrections officer was fatally shot in front of his home, coworkers have been searching for a way to honor him.
The Voice News reports that, in honor of Clarence Tariq Hammond III, fellow corrections officers at the Macomb Correctional Facility in New Haven are organizing a hockey game to benefit the two sons Hammond left behind.
The Mich. DOC Black Knights will take on the Chiefs, a team of Detroit police officers, to provide educational funds for Chance and Shiloh Hammond.
Sgt. Jim Warner says officers are coming from all over the state to play in the game, which will occur on Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $10 at the door, and checks can be made out directly to either child. The ice arena will be hosting the game for free.
Meade Lexus of Utica has already donated $500, and raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win that prize. Another way the officers are raising money is raffling off a chance to hit a puck into the next to win $100; if the shot isn’t made, the money goes into the boys’ educational fund.
