TRENTON — In the aftermath of Sunday’s deadly car accident on Route 29, Mercer County correction officers say they are trying to provide whatever comfort they can to a fellow officer who lost three family members in the crash and was injured herself.
Jennifer Dawson, 43, was driving north on Route 29 Sunday afternoon when she lost control of her vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic. Her daughter Shaneek Dawson, 28, and her two granddaughters A’iana Dodson, 5, and Trinidi Dawson, 4, were killed. Jennifer Dawson remains in “guarded” condition at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, hospital staff said.
Dawson, an eight-year veteran of the Mercer County Correction Center, is a hard-working, dependable officer liked by all, said Donald Ryland, president of the corrections officers’ union.
“She has a way of making the time go faster,” Ryland said.
He said the accident has shaken up Dawson’s coworkers but they have come together to try to support Dawson and her family.
“We reached out to them and let them know that we are willing to assist in any way that the family needs,” Ryland said. “We’re definitely there to offer her moral support.”
