Edged weapons defense for close quarter attacks
In most knife attacks, an officer may be surprised by a subject attacking them with not only a knife but a broken bottle, screw driver or anything sharp or jagged they have in their hands. Often these types of attacks are dangerously quick, spontaneous and in most cases unplanned. This definitely places the officer behind the survival curve. When distance is not possible, grabbing the arm is impossible and retreating to another location is not available the officer may have to make or create their own distance.
