COLD SPRINGS, Nev. — The family of a correctional officer who was killed by a hit and run driver is saying the person responsible may have acted out of road rage.

MyNews4 reports that Steve Hobbs, 51, was only minutes from home when he was struck and killed by a driver who an eyewitness says came into Hobbs’ lane, struck him and then continued on.

Hobbs was thrown from his motorcycle and died at a hospital hours later. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

His family wants the driver responsible caught so they can heal.

“We all love Stephen. We’re all gonna miss him forever, but he’s going to be in our hearts,” said Linda Taylor, Hobbs’ mother-in-law. “I just want justice to be done.”

The eyewitness described the car as a bluish-silver Subaru WRX, possibly a 2008 hatchback model or newer.

Neighbors are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the driver’s arrest, and a fund has been set up for the Hobbs family.
