TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A corrections officer with the Florida Department of Corrections has resigned following an inmate’s escape from a work detail in Pasco County.
WTSP 10 News reports that CO Henry Blackwelder’s report of events did not match the facts discovered by Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco and his investigative team.
Blackwelder has been with the department since October 2010.
What Blackwelder reported has not been released, but allegedly inmate Jason Adams, 27, asked to use the bathroom in the woods and never came back.
He was then able to change clothes, get cash and cigarettes, and then catch a cab to Tampa where he was then caught while riding a bicycle.
Adams was about one year into a six-and-a-half year sentence for burglary, and now faces another five years for escape.
