CHIPLEY — A correctional officer on her way to her daughter’s pre-K graduation noticed a house fire and stopped to help.
The Chipley Paper reports that Rexann Duren stopped to check the house and discovered that there was an elderly woman still inside the home.
She pulled the woman to safety and waited for emergency responders to arrive.
“There is no doubt Officer Duren’s actions saved this woman’s life,” Warden Felcia Barnes of Jackson C.I. “This speaks to the caliber of men and women who work within our department, and we are proud to call her one of our own.”
Duren is a 16-year veteran of the Department of Corrections.
