DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A sex offender serving 30 years for clubbing a homeless woman to death has had his time extended after severely beating a corrections officer.
Inmate William Johnroe, according to The Orlando Sentinel, was given another 30 years for aggravated battery on Sgt. Anthony Cannavino at the Tomoka Correctional Institution in Daytona Beach.
Johnroe attacked Cannavino in a recreation yard after the sergeant ordered him and other inmates to line up. Johnroe hit Cannavino in the face, knocking him to the ground, where he continued to beat him. He broke Cannavino’s nose, cheekbone and left ring finger.
Cannavino also suffered a concussion, required stitches on his left hand and eyebrow, and underwent surgery. He could not return to work for eight months.
