As reports roll in regarding state troopers looking for the missing inmates, he wants more notice to go to correctional staff as well

ALBANY — A former correctional officer has only good things to say regarding the prison staff assisting in the recent New York escape out of Dannemora.

CBS news reports that Michael Panzarino worked for more than two decades as a correctional officer and he’s now two years into retirement. He trained to be on a CERT squad but never practiced in the field.

As reports roll in regarding state troopers looking for the missing inmates, he wants more notice to go to correctional staff as well.

“It’s kind of a corrections SWAT team,” Panzarino said, referring to the CERT squad. “It’s our equivalent to the SWAT team.”

Panzarino says correctional staff are working side by side with state troopers in manning roadblocks and searching the woods for signs of the escapees.
