ALBANY, N.Y. — The New York state Supreme Court’s Appellate Division has awarded more than $3 million in damages to a former female jail sergeant who was sexually harassed by a group of male officers at an upstate facility.
The Times Union of Albany reports Thursday’s ruling entitles Lora Seabury to more than $3 million, including a lump sum of $1.46 million from Rensselaer County, for the state pension she would’ve received had she stayed on the job.
The decision also increases the amount of lost wages from $264,600 to $580,995. The damages include several hundred thousand dollars in interest.
A Division of Human Rights judge determined in 2013 that Seabury was harassed by a group of officers known as the “Boys Club” and sheriff’s officials took “deliberate inaction” in dealing with the matter.
