Franklin County Jail staff honored for their work

CHAMBERSBURG — Michelle Davis has been named Correctional Worker of the Year at Franklin County Jail, and Kathy Newman has been named Correctional Officer of the Year.

The two were honor at an employee barbecue on Wednesday during National Correctional Officers’ Week.

Warden William Bechtold said he was proud to recognize them.

“They are true professionals who are dedicated to the service of the citizens of Franklin County,” he said.

Each award recognizes the employee who maintains the highest of standards and contributes greatly to the success of the jail, according to Bechtold.

The jail’s leadership team, comprised of corrections managers, selected the recipients. The team considered professionalism, attitude, ability to manage the inmate population, willingness to help, knowledge and skill.

President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation in 1984 establishing National Correctional Officers and Employees Week during the first full week of May. In honor of the week, the county commissioners gave the staff a citation recognizing their contributions to the jail.. The jail this week also is hosting a number of activities for the staff.
