SOUTH SALT LAKE — An inmate accused of stabbing a Salt Lake County jail officer in the neck with a pencil has been charged.
KSL reports that Rodrigo Caballero was charged with aggravated assault by a prisoner.
Officer Nick Weekes was opening Caballero’s cell door on July 14, and “immediately felt something strike him in the lower part of his neck.” Later officers noted that he was bleeding and Weekes realized he had been stabbed with a pencil.
Caballero ran back into his cell as Weekes grabbed his pepper spray. Other officers responded for support and Caballero was handcuffed.
Caballero is also facing charges for drug possession and possession of a forgery device, along with burglary.
