Officers were sent to a local hospital for treatment

SHERIDAN, Ore. — An inmate attacked two staff members searching a cell in a medium-security facility in Sheridan Sunday morning, cutting their faces and shoulders.

Oregon Live reports that the officers were sent to a local hospital for treatment. The instrument used in the attack has not been disclosed.

The inmate, who has not been identified, has been restrained and is being held “in a secure area,” according to prison spokesman Kyle Olsen.

The FBI has been notified of the incident.
