PINAL COUNTY — A corrections officer with the Pinal County Jail is currently recovering after an inmate slashed him in the throat.

In Maricopa reports that Christopher Durazo, 26, is charged with aggravated assault on an officer after being originally booked on an outstanding warrant for assaulting another Ariz. Deparment of Corrections officer.

The officer most recently attacked was doing rounds collecting razors when Durazo assaulted him. Durazo handed the officer the plastic handle of the razor with his left hand and then used his right hand to slash the officer across the neck with the razor.

The officer sustained an eight-inch cut on the left side of his neck, but remained calm and called for help. Durazo was restrained by responding officers.

The officer was then transported to a local hospital for treatment. His current status is unknown.

Durazo has previously been sentenced in other counties for aggravated assault. While serving time in state prison between 2008 and 2013, he was charged with eight disciplinary infractions, the last being aggravated assault on a member of the prison staff. He was last released Nov. 11, 2013.
