SANTA FE, NM — A New Mexico inmate on his way out of jail stole $80 from another inmate who was just being booked.
Frank Rodriguez-Tapia, 20, took advantage of a prison guard whose back was turned, according to CBS News. Upon his release, he was supposed to report immediately to the electronic monitoring office.
Instead, he went and bought himself lunch at a burger joint with the stolen money.
Later Rodriguez-Tapia admitted to the theft, turned over the remaining $67 and was sent back to jail facing new larceny charges.
