It’s believed he was potentially looking for romance

DECATUR, Ill. – An inmate looking for love in all the wrong places was charged with bribery for attempting to purchase the phone number and personal information of a female corrections officer from one of her male colleagues.

The Herald-Review reports that the CO who was approached by the unnamed inmate immediately reported the incident to his superiors.

“I continue to be very proud of our employees and their diligence to their official duties,” said Macon County Sheriff Thomas Schneider.

The inmate is denying the bribe attempt and refuses to answer questions about his interest in the recently hired female employee.

“He would not give information on what his purposes were,” said Sgt. S.E. Flannery, jail supervisor. “I would hypothesize it’s most likely he thought he actually had a chance at some romance. But that is a 100 percent personal opinion, based on knowledge of the guy and things he’s done in the past.”
