URBANA, Ill. — The inmate who escaped from the Terre Haute Federal Prison in a government vehicle has been recaptured.
WISH TV reports that Michael Ward was found on the University of Illinois campus Monday night.
He was located by campus police in the undergrad library; he was recognized due to his clothing and ‘knit bag,’ which was prison-issued.
Ward allegedly told the officer he was there to use the public computer and that he was on parole. When asked for ID, Ward presented his prison ID. He was taken back into custody without issue.
Campus police also found the vehicle he escaped in.
He is currently being held in the Champaign County Jail.
