QUEENSBURY, NY — With an influx of inmates from other counties and overtime costs dropping, the Warren County Jail’s bottom line is looking better this year.
The Post Star reports that both other county’s inmates and federal inmates are bringing in bucks for the facility, as they all cost a daily fee to house.
The Sheriff’s Office had hoped to bring in $300,000 this year, but has already taken in $250,000.
Much of the drop in overtime is attributed to a change in medical and mental health treatment practices, which allows for more care to be done at the jail rather than off site, thus cutting down on overtime needed for transporting and watching inmates that are taken out of the jail.
Last year the county spent $615,000 on overtime, but they appear to remain on target to stay under the $350,000 that was budgeted.
