LEXINGTON, Ky. — A jury has recommended that Bass Webb serve 37 years in prison for attempting to kill two Bourbon county jail employees in 2009.
Webb will be sentenced May 20, Bourbon County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gordie Shaw said Tuesday.
Police charged Webb with two counts of attempted murder for trying to run over Bourbon County Deputy Ryan Barkley and pre-trial officer Josh Mason in the county jail parking lot in Paris in 2009.
The attack on the jail employees occurred as police agencies from several counties were seeking Webb after the killing of his estranged girlfriend, Bryia Runiewicz, in Harrison County.
According to WKYT-TV, the Herald-Leader’s television partner, jurors recommended that Webb serve 17 years on each attempted-murder charge, running concurrently. They also recommended that he serve 20 years for being a persistent felony offender.
The total recommended sentence thus would be 37 years, Shaw said.
Webb already faces decades in prison on various other sentences.
He was sentenced to 50 years in prison last September after pleading guilty to murder in the death of Runiewicz. Webb also was sentenced to 15 years in prison for assaulting a Fayette County jail officer in 2010.
Webb is scheduled for trial next year in Montgomery County in the death of another former girlfriend, Sabrina Marie Vaughn, who disappeared in 2003. Her remains were found in 2010.
