MARION COUNTY, Ind. — Marion County Jail is coming under scrutiny again for mistakenly releasing inmate Scott Snyder earlier last week.
FOX News reports that an arrest warrant was issued one day after his mistaken release. It took three days to re-apprehend him.
Two sheriff’s deputies have also been placed on leave, though for a separate incident that the department would not comment on.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department came under fire in June when deputies had to track down five inmates who were released by accident.
“They’re human beings and there can be human errors, it’s not a totally electronic system and even with the information that they have it’s extremely complicated,” said Lt. Col Louis Dezelan, defending the jail’s staff.
The jail system allegedly generated two case numbers for Snyder, which led a staff member to look at the wrong case and decide that the inmate should be released.
“The sheriff is working to make sure these misinterpretations don’t happen again in the future,” Dezelan said.
