SPRINGFIELD — An unnamed correctional officer who was shot in the abdomen while exiting a vehicle has improved since the incident, according to police.
MassLive reports that the woman and a companion were exiting a vehicle Saturday morning when shots rang out. The victim got back into the vehicle with the companion and drove 1,000 feet to an intersection, where police intercepted her.
She was taken to a nearby hospital and initially listed in critical condition. She is now listed in stable condition.
The victim is said to live in the neighborhood where she was shot. The neighborhood is described by neighbors as quiet, “a lot of families and working people.”
Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
