WICHITA, Kan. — The joint funeral for a Reno County Sheriff’s jail deputy and his wife will be held Thursday in Wichita.

The memorial service for Shawn Schellenger, 27, and Danielle Schellenger, 33, will be at 10 a.m. at New Spring Church, 12200 E. 21st St. North, Wichita.

The Schellengers were riding on a motorcycle in Great Bend Saturday when a trailer came loose from a pickup in an oncoming lane of 10th Street and struck their motorcycle, authorities have said. Danielle died later that afternoon and Shawn the next day.

Great Bend Police Chief Dan Akings said on Wednesday an investigation into the incident had been completed and turned over to the Barton County Attorney.

But Barton County Attorney Doug Matthews said late Wednesday afternoon said he is still waiting for a full report on the crash.

“We have received some but not all information from the law enforcement community” about the crash, Matthews said in an e-mail response to questions.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is also assisting the investigation. Matthews said he has no timetable for when decisions will be made in relation to the crash.

Memorial contributions may be sent to: The Schellenger Children’s Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 913, Hutchinson, KS 67504-0913; Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or Camp Hope for PTSD, 9724 Derrington Rd., Houston, TX 77064.
