LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A convicted murderer who was mistakenly released from prison and then recaptured in Georgia has chosen to not fight extradition back to Louisiana.
WBRZ reports that Benjuiel Johnson waived extradition in a hearing Saturday, allowing authorities to begin the process of moving him back to Louisiana where he will continue serving his 2013 sentence for manslaughter.
Johnson was erroneously released Sept. 23 when a paperwork error didn’t include his manslaughter charge. He was recaptured about a week later at a motel in Atlanta.
He will likely return to the same facility from which he was mistakenly released, Dixon Correctional Center.
