Mo. inmate accused of throwing bodily fluids at COs

Hung up a blanket to obscure view of him, then attacked officers when they entered the cell

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mo. — An inmate already serving time for murder is now facing charges of assaulting corrections officers.

KMOV reports that inmate Ronne Gulley Jr. hung a blanket up inside his cell to limit the officers’ view of him. When he did not comply with orders to remove the blanket, officers entered the cell and were struck with a mixture of urine and feces.

Gulley also punched a third officer in the face twice.

The jail is overcrowded and poorly configured, making the officers’ jobs that much harder.

“In order to visually inspect every 30 minutes, they have to walk these narrow hallways and these confrontations can happen,” says St. Clair County Sheriff Rick Watson. “In a newer system, they have a pod where from a central location, you can inspect possibly hundreds of prisoners.”

He recently lobbied for voters to support a measure that would raise funds for a new jail, but it was voted down.
