FALLSBURG — The name of the inmate who died in an altercation with three correctional officers at the state-run Sullivan Correctional Facility in New York has been released.

The Daily Freeman reports that Karl Taylor, 52, was serving a term of 27 and a half to 55 years for sex crimes and aggravated harassment of an employee.

How Taylor’s death occurred is still being investigated by state police.

Police said that they “responded to the facility Monday morning, following a report of an assault on staff.” They did not say how or if the assault was connected to the death.

The three officers involved in the incident were hospitalized, one for a broken arm and a head injury, and another for a head injury. The injuries of the third have not been described.
