FRANKFORT, Ky. — A man who escaped 40 years ago from a North Carolina prison called authorities in Kentucky to “make this right.”
UPI reports that Clarence David Moore escaped from the former Polk Youth Institute in 1972 under the name David Edward Moore. He contacted deputies to turn himself in.
Moore was wheeled out of a house on a stretcher Monday, and was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center for examination. He will later be transferred to the Franklin County Jail.
He was originally convicted of larceny and had been scheduled for release from prison in 1978. He told authorities that he had been in a car accident in 2009 but avoided being recaptured by using a false name. He also didn’t have any identification on him when he spoke to police.
Moore was on the loose for a total of 15,654 days before turning himself over to the authorities.
