WOODBURY — Authorities have charged a Gloucester County corrections officer with theft from a law enforcement union.

Authorities say 38-year-old Derrick Smart took more than $500 from the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 97 between 2008 and 2012. The union represents corrections officers.

Smart has been released on his own recognizance. He was suspended from his job without pay.
