ROCKFORD, Ill. — A judge in Rockford has ordered the one-time client of a Rockford attorney held without bond in the lawyer’s 2008 shooting death.

The Rockford Register Star reports 53-year-old Richard Wanke appeared before 17th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Rosemary Collins on Friday. He asked for time to hire an attorney, which he hopes to have done by his next court date on May 2.

Wanke is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 60-year-old Gregory H. Clark. Clark was fatally shot while clearing snow from his driveway.

Wanke was arrested April 16 at Stateville Correctional Center. He has been serving a 14-year sentence on burglary charges with a projected parole date of May 7.

Wanke previously has said he had nothing to do with Clark’s death.
