FISHKILL, NY — A corrections officer at the Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill was injured during a routine visit to transport an inmate to a separate unit.
According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, two officers entered an unnamed inmate’s cell, when the inmate proceeded to spit on one officer before striking him in the face with a closed fist. A third CO responded to the assault and the inmate was restrained.
The officer sustained injuries to his eye and cheek area, and has since been treated and released from St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.
