EERIE COUNTY, NY — A corrections officer is among the casualties of the recent snow storms on the east coast.

WHEC reports that Donald Abate, who worked in Batavia, became trapped when his vehicle got stuck in a ditch on his drive home.

Both Abate and family members made calls trying to get him help. After a while, however, Abate’s family members ceased to hear from him.

On Tuesday, Abate’s car was discovered in snow with him dead inside.

Abate’s family said he had called AAA for a tow truck, and had also called 911. They later learned the tow truck had been turned away due to a driving ban.

Both the State Police and Eerie County Sheriff’s Department have begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
