NEW YORK — A Watertown Correctional Facility officer was injured on Sunday after an inmate pushed him down a flight of stairs.
NYTV reports that the unnamed officer sustained a broken finger and contusions to his hip in the fall.
He has since been treated and released from the hospital.
Officials say inmate Joshua Pridgen was being disruptive and talking during an inmate count in the housing dormitory. When an officer told him to be quiet, Pridgen not only refused but approached the officer and became belligerent.
A second officer heard the commotion and started down the stairs to help diffuse the situation. The inmate allegedly heard him coming, charged at him as the officer descended the stairs and struck him on the chest and forearm.
Pridgen then began to struggle with the downed officer but additional backup arrived to restrain the inmate.
Pridgen is currently serving time for burglary and robbery.
