COOK COUNTY — An off-duty Cook County correctional officer was shot in the leg Monday night in an alley behind his mother’s Little Village home, authorities said.
The man, who was wearing his uniform, was in an alley with his son near the 2800 block of South Tripp Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. when someone in a minivan shot him, then fled north in the alley.
The man was 37 years old, according to Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago police spokeswoman. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to Greer.
