TOLEDO, Ohio — A prisons oversight committee in Ohio says improvements are being made at a northwestern Ohio prison where there were four fatal attacks on inmates beginning in 2012.
The Correctional Institution Inspection Committee says there have been fewer assaults and disturbances at the Toledo Correctional Institution.
The Blade in Toledo reports the committee says the prison is making improvements in security, management of maximum security prisoners, health-care services and employee turnover.
The prison came under close scrutiny after four inmates were killed in just over a year period.
The state just over a year ago decided the prison would no longer receive new inmates who are classified to be double-bunked.
Records showed violence had been rising since the prison started doubling up inmates to deal with overcrowding.
