YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A York County Prison inmate already being held in seg for being a problem inmate was found guilty Wednesday of aggravated harassment.
The York Dispatch reports that Peter Sanchez-Santiago attempted to spray corrections officers with a mixture of feces, urine and water. The mixture was sprayed using an empty toothpaste tube. The practice is called ‘gassing.’
None of the COs were hit with the mixture.
Sanchez-Santiago was ordered to put his hands outside the cell so they could secure him after he attempted to spray them, but he refused. He then started banging his head against the cell door.
Officers entered his cell in an attempt to restrain him, but Sanchez-Santiago took a swing at one CO and bit the officer’s finger. The inmate has tested positive for Hepatitis C, and the bite did break skin.
He was not, however, found guilty of being a prisoner in illegal possession of weapons or implements of escape, even though officers reported that he had three homemade shanks tucked under his genitals.
The weapons were found once the officers got Sanchez-Santiago under control, and included a sharpened pencil, toothbrush and comb.
This was credited to the fact that the weapons, nor photos of the weapons, were not shown to jurors during court proceedings.
The charges against Sanchez-Santiago included felony assault for the bite, but was withdrawn as part of a plea agreement that fell apart.
Sanchez-Santiago was in prison serving time on charges including resisting arrest and making terroristic threats.
